Star winger has “aggravated” a previous issue and returns to England
Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo has withdrawn from the Ghana squad due to an injury.
Semenyo started Friday's 2-0 international friendly loss to Japan, but was withdrawn in the 55th minute and has subsequently been ruled out of facing South Korea on Tuesday.
The winger showed few signs of discomfort when walking off the pitch in Toyoto, and Ghana head coach Otto Addo did not mention a potential issue with Semenyo at his post-match press conference.
But the Ghana Football Association has since confirmed an "aggravation" of a previous ligament issue around the player’s ankle and shin.
An official statement, titled 'Antoine Semenyo's injury', read: "Left anterior talo-fibula ligament sprain, which was aggravated during the game against Japan."
Semenyo is now expected to return to Bournemouth for further assessment. Manager Andoni Iraola should provide an update at his pre-match press conference later this week.
Any absence for Semenyo will be a huge blow for the Cherries, who return to Premier League action on Saturday with a visit of West Ham.
Semenyo has six goals and three assists in 11 top-flight games this season, establishing himself as one of the most impressive forwards in the Premier League.
Such form has prompted links with the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.
Spurs reportedly enquired about Semenyo's availability in the summer.
