Liverpool will soon be seeking a permanent successor Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian King’s future at Anfield is under severe scrutiny owing to the reaction following his interview at Leeds last week. It looks certain that Salah will be leaving the Premier League champions before his contract expires in 2027.

The winger is now away at the Africa Cup of Nations - with sporting director Richard Hughes expected to find a solution before the end of the international showpiece event.

Teams in Saudi Arabia - as well as San Diego FC in MLS - may well present the next opportunity for Salah. And if he leaves then Liverpool’s hierarchy will need to find a successor.

LFC to match City interest in Semenyo

We’ve seen links to Michael Olise and Yan Diomande but perhaps the best fit right now would be Antoine Semenyo. The 25-year-old Bournemouth attacker will have a £65m release clause activated in the January transfer window.

Liverpool are expected to be in the chase for the Ghana international’s signature - with the versatile forward contracted to the Cherries until 2030.

A report in TEAMtalk suggests that while Manchester City are currently positioned as frontrunners Liverpool are prepared to match their interest every step of the way.

The Merseysiders will also have to pay attention to Tottenham - who came close to agreeing a deal for Semenyo last summer.

Bournemouth will seek Quenda loan

“Arne Slot envisions Semenyo as Mohamed Salah’s long-term heir,” the report reads.

“The Egyptian icon might be on the way out of Anfield sooner than anyone had anticipated just a few weeks ago.”

And now there are solid indications that Bournemouth are stepping up preparations for Semenyo’s departure. According to the same report the South Coast club will make a move for Sporting CP’s Geovany Quenda - who will join Chelsea in summer 2026.

The 18-year-old could be loaned out straight away by the London side with Bournemouth now providing a potential destination for the young Portuguese wing sensation.

“The Cherries are eyeing replacements like Sporting’s Geovany Quenda, who will join Chelsea in the summer but could be loaned straight out,” the report reads.

Bournemouth paid around £10m for Semenyo in 2023 when he left Bristol City. His rise since then has been sensational - with Richard Hughes overseeing the initial deal to bring him to the Vitality Stadium.
