Sevilla have ended their pursuit of Pisa’s Romanian midfielder Marius Marin, who is instead joining Al-Nasr after months of talks with the Andalusian club.

According to La Colina De Nervion, the decision closes a pathway that had been close to completion for the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán hierarchy.

The defensive midfielder leaves Pisa as a free agent and will not be part of Sevilla’s squad next season. The pull of Middle Eastern football altered the Romania international’s plans.

The move had been driven by former sporting director Antonio Cordón, who travelled to Italy to push it over the line. A mid-season injury to Marin prompted doubts, echoing the case of Patrick Mercado. He did return before the end of the campaign, but circumstances in Seville shifted.

With Cordón departing and Navarro taking charge of recruitment, priorities changed. Sevilla accelerated an unexpected move for Jon Guridi, also out of contract with Deportivo Alavés, leaving Marin free to accept Al-Nasr’s proposal.

Attention now turns to alternatives at holding midfield. Nail Umyarov of Spartak Moscow has re-emerged on the agenda, though tight finances mean any deal is likely to depend on outgoing transfers or using Kike Salas in part-exchange, a defender admired by the Russian club’s staff.
