António Silva is a doubt for Porto v Benfica, but the club remain hopeful of his recovery, according to Glorioso 1904.

Benfica’s hierarchy believe the centre-back could overcome his injury in time to start the decisive tie. The aim is to have him available to help the team.

With Nicolás Otamendi unavailable, squad management may involve risk. If Silva does not fully recover by kick-off, Gonçalo Oliveira would likely be José Mourinho’s choice for the clássico.

Silva sustained a muscular contusion oedema in his right thigh during the warm-up before the Estoril match. He had been due to start that game, which Benfica won 3-1.

The clássico is scheduled for Wednesday, 14 January 2026, at 20:45, at Estádio do Dragão. It is the Taça de Portugal Generali Tranquilidade quarter-final and will be shown on RTP 1.

This season the defender, valued at 30 million euros, has played 25 matches for Benfica, totalling 2,023 minutes. That includes 11 in Liga Portugal Betclic, nine in the Champions League, three in the Taça de Portugal, one in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça.
