Benfica are pushing to secure António Silva’s future and have put forward a renewal built around gradual pay rises.
According to Record, the 22-year-old would begin on net wages above €1.2m a season, increasing in stages to more than €1.5m in the final year of the deal.
The club are also prepared to commit close to €3m per season to keep the centre-back, and plan to hand him greater dressing-room responsibility, viewing him as a potential future captain.
The proposal was delivered in May, before the final round of the Liga Portugal Betclic season, and is currently being assessed.
Even so, the defender continues to attract interest in the transfer market, leaving a departure on the table. If he declines to renew and an offer judged advantageous arrives, Benfica could proceed with a sale to secure a significant fee.
