António Silva intends to leave Benfica in the current summer window, bringing a four-season spell in the first team to a close. According to Glorioso 1904, the 22-year-old Portugal international believes it is the right moment for a new step.
He is entering the final year of his contract and had a renewal offer on the table through to 2031. The board led by Rui Costa presented the proposal in late May, before the final league match against Estoril, in a bid to keep one of the squad’s leading figures.
Across the past four seasons, Silva made 181 senior appearances and helped win one league title, one League Cup and two Super Cups. The offer also included a significant uplift to his terms.
The plan was to hand him the captain’s armband this season and a progressive deal starting above 1.2 million euros net per year, rising to 1.5 million euros by the end of the contract. Even so, it was not enough to convince him, and he had recently said the process remained open.
With the player’s intention made clear, Benfica are preparing to discuss a possible transfer, targeting a minimum fee of around 20 million euros. The club recognises this could be the last chance to secure a return on the defender.
