Benfica are weighing a new contract for António Silva as the centre-back nears the final year of his deal, with a plan understood to be in place for the 22-year-old.
Record writes that president Rui Costa is assessing a fresh proposal, which would only be tabled after the season finishes.
José Mourinho wants to keep the defender and said before a match that he intends to rely on the club’s number four next season. Rui Costa is thought to be receptive to that request, though the club still need to convince the player.
The issue has dragged on for months without resolution. Benfica wish to retain Silva, but if no agreement is reached they could consider a sale to secure a fee.
This season Silva has made 36 appearances for Benfica, 20 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 10 in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal, one in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. Across 2,745 minutes he has scored one goal. He is valued at €28 million.
