António Silva was seen at Cascais Airport on Friday as he moved closer to leaving Benfica. According to Glorioso 1904, he is travelling to England ahead of a switch to Bournemouth.
The centre-back declined to speak to reporters at the airport in Tires, a few hours after what appeared to be his final outing for the club.
He started in Thursday’s 5-0 win over St. Gallen, which sealed progress to the Europa League third qualifying round. After the whistle, he stayed on the Estádio da Luz pitch to bid farewell to supporters.
Marco Silva said in his press conference that the defender is leaving, adding the player had already made up his mind and that discussions had taken place between Benfica’s hierarchy and his representatives.
His flight to London was scheduled for 8:45, with more developments on the official announcement expected in the coming hours.
Benfica have lined up Stepán Chaloupek of Slavia Praga as a defensive target. The 23-year-old is the subject of a proposal worth around 12 million euros, which is likely to be rejected, with Hull City, Ipswich Town and Hamburgo also monitoring.
