Antony now considering a surprise switch to the Serie A

Manchester United have got rid of Marcus Rashford but only on loan. They were hoping to move Antony on next, given his superb loan form for Real Betis last season.

The Brazilian, who struggled under Erik ten Hag, and Ruben Amorim, decided to join the La Liga side in January, and took them all the way to the UEFA Conference League final.

In only 26 games across all competitions, the 25-year-old managed nine goals and five assists.

In two-and-half seasons at Old Trafford, the ex-Ajax ace had managed the same number of assists for the Red Devils and managed only three more goals.

Antony excelled at Betis

Betis were expected to swoop for the Brazil international this summer, but the Red Devils slapped a £50 million price tag on him, causing the deal to fail to materialise.

They have been insistent on another loan deal, but INEOS want a permanent solution, and recent reports had suggested Atletico Madrid had overtaken them in the race due to their dithering.

Foot Italia have now added AC Milan to the mix, with the left-footed winger reportedly “considering” a move to Serie A with time running out.

“Following his successful loan spell in Spain, which also saw Antony reach the Europa Conference League final, the Brazilian has attracted interest from a host of clubs around Europe.

AC Milan join the race

“The 25-year-old came up against a Serie A side in the UECL semi-finals, scoring twice and registering assist across two-legs against Fiorentina to secure a place in the final.

“Such a high-level of performance against an Italian side has caught the eye of another Serie A giant, as AC Milan are reportedly interested in signing the winger this summer.”

The report does not mention what sort of proposal the Rossoneri will be offering the 20-time English league champions, but INEOS will be hoping for a straight sale.

Or atleast a loan with an obligation to buy. Whether Real Betis return for Antony before the window closes will be interesting to see.

The Milan giants also have their eyes on Rasmus Hojlund, another attacker INEOS are keen to offload.
