Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Antwerp are in discussions with former Westerlo head coach Jonas De Roeck. With current head coach Mark van Bommel set to leave at the end of the season, the side are looking for a replacement. De Roeck helped Westerlo gain promotion to the Belgian Pro League two seasons ago and led them to a strong finish in their first season back in the top flight. However, after a poor start to the 2023/2024 season, De Roeck was sacked by the club.
Antwerp are reportedly set for a rebuild this summer, with key players expected to be allowed to leave as they look to refresh the squad. In order to do this, they will need to sell players in order to raise funds. With funds being an issue, it is no surprise that they are looking for a coach that is currently not with a club. However De Roeck has shown during his time with Westerlo that he is a very good coach who can get his sides to play good attractive attacking football.
