Leeds United midfielder Ao Tanaka was in international action on Tuesday as Japan recorded an impressive 3-2 victory over Brazil at the Ajinomoto Stadium in Tokyo.
The 27-year-old came off the bench in the 74th minute, replacing Takumi Minamino, and made a solid contribution in the closing stages. Tanaka registered 13 touches, completed eight passes, had one shot on target, and chipped in defensively with one tackle and one clearance as the Samurai Blue held firm to seal a famous win.
The match formed part of Japan’s preparations for next summer’s World Cup, with Hajime Moriyasu’s side already confirmed among the qualified nations. Tanaka’s appearance marked his 34th senior cap, continuing his steady presence in Japan’s midfield setup.
After the victory, Tanaka is now set to return to Thorp Arch as Leeds turn their attention back to domestic matters, with Daniel Farke’s side facing Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday.
