Jokin Aperribay addressed the Copa del Rey final ticket allocation at La Cartuja in Seville and the recent controversy, setting out Real Sociedad’s criteria. Speaking at Anoeta on Friday, he said regular attendees should be the main beneficiaries and that he does not believe members will enter the draw to make money.
He was joined by senior club staff including Begoña larzabal, Ion Álvarez de Eulate and Iñigo Mujika. Aperribay began by congratulating the team and coaches on reaching the final and praising Real and Athletic supporters for a historic semi-final, highlighting exemplary behaviour across two fiercely contested matches that reflected well on Basque football.
He outlined the member process, saying the club’s first focus was the adult individual member who usually attends Anoeta, so they were given priority. The board considered rewarding seniority and decided to guarantee tickets to those with more than 25 years’ membership, opting for 25 over 50. He added that the club also cares for people paying while waiting to become members and shareholders who once helped secure the club’s future.
The ballot will take place before a notary at 13:00 on Wednesday 18 March, with results communicated the same day.
He said the club asked the RFEF to explore a different method but were told there was no time to change the application software for this final. Aperribay urged people to stop doubting the membership and asked that anyone requesting a ticket uses their own name.
