The Algerian national team pulled off a sensation this Tuesday, brilliantly defeating Iraq and claiming their very first victory against the Lions of Mesopotamia in the history of encounters between the two nations.
Madjid Bougherra's men have booked their ticket to the quarter-finals of the Arab Cup, currently taking place in Qatar. Thanks to this 2-0 win, the Fennecs finish top of Group D with seven points.
Mohamed Amine Tougaï opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time (45+1'), before Iraqi defender Saad Natiq extended the lead with an own goal right after the restart (46').
This triumph marks Algeria's very first win over Iraq, after seven previous encounters in which the Iraqis had always held the upper hand (three wins and four draws).
Confident and determined, the Algerians now move on to the quarter-finals, where they will face the United Arab Emirates, with a clear goal in mind: to defend their title.
