Arab Cup - Algeria / "The real challenge starts now": Madjid Bougherra shifts tone after Iraq
Algeria A’ wrapped up their group stage campaign in style, asserting their dominance over Iraq (2-0) to secure the top spot in Group D and confirm their much-anticipated rise in form. Following this accomplished performance, Madjid Bougherra did not hide his satisfaction, praising a squad that "approaches things with seriousness" while reminding everyone that the ultimate goal has not yet been achieved. For the head coach, this victory marks a true turning point in the Greens’ journey in Qatar.
Well aware of the doubts that surfaced after the opening draw against Sudan, Bougherra made sure to highlight his players’ response:
"I’m happy for the players, because we had a tough start to the tournament."
According to him, that difficult opening match pushed the group to immediately get back to work and address their shortcomings. The coach also emphasized the symbolic importance of this victory:
"Congratulations to us for this win. It’s important for us to keep this momentum going, to win, and to reach the final."
Even though qualification is secured and momentum regained, Bougherra refuses to let the team get carried away. The quarter-final against the United Arab Emirates promises to be a tricky test, especially against a team capable of playing without pressure.
"The real challenge starts now, and we’re going to face the Emirates. I’m happy, but it’s not over yet," he warned.
Algeria has completed its first mission; what lies ahead will demand even greater composure, efficiency, and character.
