The Bournemouth full-back – currently on loan at the Hoops – has quickly won over Celtic supporters with his energetic displays and passionate celebrations since arriving in Glasgow.
Araujo has earned 16 international caps but fell out of contention earlier this season after losing his place in Bournemouth’s starting line-up during the opening months of the campaign.
His most recent involvement with Mexico came during the CONCACAF Gold Cup, where he featured in both the quarter-final and semi-final before missing the final victory over the United States through injury.
The former Barcelona defender has not appeared in any of Mexico’s nine matches since that tournament, though he could now return to the squad for upcoming friendlies against Portugal in Mexico City and Belgium in Chicago later this month.
Aguirre said via Glasgow Times: “It’s true that I also spoke with Julian Araujo, who is currently doing well in Scotland. Right back is a position where I have many options. We have Rodrigo Huescas at FC Copenhagen too and I want to see our players in Europe in the future.”
Araujo initially represented the United States at senior level, making a single appearance in a match against El Salvador six years ago. However, the defender later chose to change his international future and formally approached FIFA to complete a one-time switch so he could represent Mexico.
Speaking last month, Araujo opened up about the reasons behind his decision to commit his international career to El Tri.
He said: “I idolised Rafa Marquez, Andres Guardado, Chicharito Hernandez, Giovanni Dos Santos, Jonathan Dos Santos, Memo Ochoa and Raul Jimenez.”
“I dreamed of playing with them and wearing the Mexico jersey. I never had that feeling with the USA national team. I never woke up in the middle of the night to watch a USA game.”

Araujo has made such an impressive impact at Celtic, and he must surely be interested in a permanent move if a deal can be struck with Bournemouth.
