Aston Villa will face off against Bolton Wanderers at the University of Bolton Stadium on Tuesday night as they look to secure a win and book a place in the next round of the EFL Cup. The Villans suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of Crystal Palace recently which has halted their momentum ahead of this game.

Steven Gerrard could opt for a 4-3-3 formation and is expected to make a lot of changes to his first XI for this cup game on the road. Both Cameron Archer and Ludwig Augustinsson will get a chance to play from the start in this clash.

Defence

Martin Olsson will function in goal for the Villans as he looked to keep a clean sheet away from home. Calum Chambers could partner up with Tyrone Mings at the heart of Aston Villa’s backline as they look to keep things solid at the back during the 90 minutes.

Ashley Young could fill in at right-back while Ludwig Augustinsson looks to impress on the other side as the left-back. Both of them would get the license to express themselves in Bolton’s half in support of the front players.

Ezri Konsa will have to settle for a spot on the bench as he offers cover for the centre-half positions.

Villa Park

Midfield

Gerrard could name a midfield comprised of Jacob Ramsey, Marvelous Nakamba and Douglas Luiz at the centre of the park. All three of them would need to be at the top of their game if they are to help the Villans secure a win in midweek.

John McGinn will be available for selection on the bench and might come on to make an impact in the second half if required.

Attack

Emiliano Buendia will operate as the left-sided wide player. He will have to carry most of the creative burden down the left flank.

Cameron Archer might get an opportunity to impress from the right. Danny Ings is expected to lead the line for the West Midlands club up top. The former Liverpool striker will be eager to make a difference for his team by getting his name on the scoresheet this Tuesday night.

Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins will have to be content with a place on the bench as they wait for their chance to influence the game in the latter stages if Aston Villa are in need of a goal by then.
