Are Alloa on the verge of a colossal Rangers upset?

While the chances of Rangers losing to Alloa this weekend are modest, they were modest against Queen’s Park last season too. However, the Clackmannanshire side have a very big chance of pulling off an astonishing upset at Ibrox.

It would not even be that much of an upset. In fact, an Ibrox Noise straw poll of predictions for this match revealed little confidence from the home fans. As a result, Alloa could be in line to produce one of the biggest results at Ibrox in years.

It is entirely possible. Nevertheless, the gravity of the result is sadly not as big as it used to be. If Alloa win, it would not be the massive giant kill it once was. Even so, it would still be a shock, but not the kind that rocks Scottish football to its core.

Rangers under Russell Martin have sunk so low. They have won two of six in competitive matches. Furthermore, they have also won two of six in friendlies. That means four wins from twelve overall. A 33% win ratio is absolutely dire.

It is the worst start to any new Rangers manager’s career in the Scottish Premiership. Consequently, Alloa could take full advantage of that this weekend. The chances are not huge, but they are real.

The biggest danger from the visitors is Ireland’s Connor Salmon. The big man will cause mayhem even if he is getting on. Moreover, he remains a threat whether or not he starts.

Rangers will have their work cut out. In theory, it should be a routine home win. However, Alloa are not Real Madrid. Ultimately, it all depends on which Rangers turn up.

Rangers have been dire in the league and in domestic competition. Therefore, this weekend will show if Russell Martin can finally get a home win in a domestic match. It could also bring another horrendous result for the current coach.
