Are Manchester City about take a calculated gamble to end the summer transfer window?

Article image:Are Manchester City about take a calculated gamble to end the summer transfer window?

It had appeared until this week began that Manchester City had completed the majority of their summer transfer business. It was believed that the City hierarchy would focus on outgoings to trim Pep Guardiola’s squad for the new season. But that has now seemingly changed. Recently, City have been linked with potential moves for Real Madrid winger Rodrygo and PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. It now seems that Manchester City could be on the verge of taking a calculated gamble at the end of the transfer window. The situation at City is continuing to evolve as the days go by.

Manchester City are making moves to understand the situation of Rodrygo and Gianluigi Donnarumma.

First of all, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Manchester City have a serious interest in signing Rodrygo. Furthermore, Romano reports that City has contacted Rodrygo and his family to understand the player’s feelings and situation. Romano also reports that Real Madrid will likely demand €100 million to sell Rodrygo. Lastly, it is also reported that City hopes to negotiate a lower transfer fee to sign Rodrygo.

Fabrice Hawkins has reported that Manchester City are monitoring the situation surrounding Gianluigi Donnarumma. Furthermore, Hawkins reports that City’s potential move for Donnarumma depends on whether Ederson leaves the club. Lastly, Hawkins reports that Donnarumma is extremely interested in a summer move to Manchester City

Manchester City’s move for Rodrygo and Donnarumma depends on what happens with Savinho and Ederson.

It would appear that Manchester City’s potential moves for Rodrygo and Donnarumma are dependent on Ederson or Savinho leaving the club. Rob Dawson has reported for ESPN that Manchester City will only move for another attacker if Savinho leaves the club. Tottenham have begun talks with City over signing the Brazilian international. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Galatasaray are set to begin negotiations with City over a deal for Ederson.

That is the state of play regarding City’s interest in signing Rodrygo and Gianluigi Donnarumma, and the potential of Ederson and Savinho leaving City. My question over the situation is: Are Manchester City set to take a calculated risk at the end of the transfer window? That depends on your point of view. If Ederson and Savinho want to leave the club, and City’s asking price for both players is met, they’ll both likely depart. They’d need to be replaced. Rodrygo and Gianluigi Donnarumma would be more than adequate replacements. Signing both players would be a risk, as it could upset the balance of Pep Guardiola’s squad. But they are both proven performers at the highest level and when the stakes are at their highest. Manchester City do need players with this trait.

The other question is this: Are Donnarumma and Rodrygo upgrades on Ederson and Savinho? Perhaps the Manchester City hierarchy feel that is the case and don’t want to miss an opportunity that is seemingly on the market. The answer will come soon, but City may be about to take a calculated risk in the summer transfer window.
