At the beginning of this week, it seemed that Manchester City would have to find another centre-back to target in the January transfer window other than Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi. The Athletic’s Sam Lee had shared on the Let Me Podcast that Guehi possibly preferred moving to Liverpool or potentially Arsenal on a free transfer in the summer when his current contract expires rather than joining Pep Guardiola’s side in January. But the pendulum may have swung in Manchester City’s favor based on the most recent report to emerge from Fabrizio Romano.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Manchester City have made significant progress in their bid to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace this month. As per Romano’s report, City made a big approach to Guehi over the past twelve hours. Furthermore, Romano reports that City have presented an important contract offer to the Crystal Palace captain. Romano’s report adds that City are ready to proceed with negotiations with Crystal Palace to sign their captain. Lastly, it is also reported that a deal that will see Marc Guehi sign for Manchester City is edging ever closer.

Manchester City are seemingly edging closer to signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. As a player, Marc Guehi would add exactly what Pep Guardiola’s squad needs in light of the injuries suffered by Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias. Max Alleyne and Abdukodir Khusanov have been superb in the heart of Manchester City’s defense in their past three matches. But Pep Guardiola’s squad does seem short of an experienced centre-back. Signing Guehi would fill that hole immediately, and Guehi would also be a quality replacement for John Stones or Nathan Ake. Ake and Stones have their own injury and fitness issues, and they seem certain to leave City at the end of this season.
Marc Guehi can contribute for Manchester City now and also become an important player for Pep Guardiola’s side for years to come if they can sign him this month. Fabrizio Romano’s new report indicates that the chances of City signing Guehi are now very real. Manchester City’s move to sign Guehi is now an emerging story to follow for the remainder of the January transfer window.
