Manchester United supporters were so delighted with Senne Lammens on his debut that they playfully compared him to a club legend.
Following last weekend’s defeat in Brentford, the Red Devils endured a miserable week full of speculation regarding the future of Ruben Amorim.
Luckily for the Portuguese tactician, his team pulled off a timely rebound win over Sunderland on Saturday afternoon. MUFC prevailed thanks to two goals in the first half, courtesy of Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko. Nevertheless, the big story of the day was probably Lammens’ first appearance for the club.

Lammens completed a deadline-day move from Royal Antwerp to United, replacing the disappointing Andre Onana, who ended up joining Trabzonspor on loan.
But despite the Belgian’s arrival, Amorim continued to entrust Altay Bayindir with the starting gloves, even though the latter wasn’t always impressive between the posts.
Nevertheless, the Portuguese manager felt that the challenge against Sunderland represented the ideal opportunity to give the newcomer his bow.
Luckily for Man Utd, Amorim’s decision paid off, with Lammens producing a solid display in front of the delighted Old Trafford supporters.
According to Statman Dave, the goalkeeper made 52 total touches, 11 clearances, three saves, while also claiming two high balls and pulling off one sweeper action, in what he described as an ‘ideal’ showing.
While judging the 23-year-old remains vastly premature, the fans believe that Lammens could be the answer to Man Utd’s long-running goalkeeping woes. This was certainly depicted by their over-the-top reaction to every ball claimed by the summer signing.
Moreover, ESPN journalist Rob Dawson reveals that the Stretford End was singing “are you Schmeichel in disguise?” following a catch from Lammens, in a reference to Danish legend Peter Schmeichel, who represented the club between 1991 and 1999, and won the famous treble in his final season at the club.
The Man Utd faithful will be keen to see the Belgian confirm his capabilities with solid showings in the coming weeks, before crowning him as the answer to their prayers.
