Argentina, the reigning champions, have named their 2026 World Cup squad. Lionel Scaloni's side open on 16 June at 22:00 Brasília time against Algeria.

According to Globo.com, there are nine newcomers compared with the 2022 title-winning group: Musso, Balerdi, Medina, Barco, Lo Celso, Nico Paz, Nico González, Giuliano Simeone and Flaco López of Palmeiras.

Three-time champions Argentina first lifted the trophy in 1978, beating the Netherlands 3-1 in extra time after a 1-1 draw in normal time. Their second came in 1986 with a 3-2 win over Germany. The most recent triumph was in 2022 on penalties after a 3-3 draw, 2-2 in normal time.

The most notable omissions were Dybala of Roma, Acuña of River Plate and Mastantuono of Real Madrid. The first two were champions in Qatar in 2022.

Argentina are in Group J. After Algeria, they face Austria on 22 June at 14:00 Brasília time in Dallas, the same venue for the third match against Jordan on 27 June at 23:00 Brasília time.

The 2026 World Cup will be staged in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The tournament features 104 matches, opening on 11 June with Mexico v South Africa at the Estadio Azteca. The knockout stage begins on 28 June, and the final is on 19 July at MetLife Stadium.
