Argentine FA backs Gianni Infantino, hails governance and inclusivity | OneFootball

Rebuffed by UEFA, numerous national federations and some of his closest associates, FIFA president Gianni Infantino has received public backing from the Argentine Football Association.

L'Équipe reports that the AFA praised his 10-year stewardship for global development and institutional strength built on clear, stable and transparent governance.

The stance runs counter to CONMEBOL, which on Thursday voiced concern over repeated unilateral actions taken in recent months by FIFA and its president, the 56-year-old.

On Infantino’s shelved plan to create a commercial company to sell World Cup stakes to private investors, the AFA welcomed the withdrawal. The proposal had stirred more doubts than assurances within the football family.

The statement also referenced an acknowledgement of errors and an apology sent to FIFA’s 211 member associations.

AFA president Claudio Tapia, an ally of Infantino, underlined a decade of transformation at FIFA and a shared aim to advance the game at all levels under transparent governance, respect for statutes and democratic procedures.

With the next FIFA presidential election due in March 2027 in Morocco, the AFA maintains that continuing to work with Infantino, currently the only declared candidate, is the path to a better and more inclusive game.
