Argentine goalkeeper Gustavo Tesonotte left his goal open in protest at a stoppage-time penalty in Bolivia on Sunday, and Atlético Cochabamba scored to beat Wilstermann Cooperativas de Potosi 3-2 in the Simon-Bolivar Cup.

According to L'Équipe, the Wilstermann Cooperativas keeper stood against his right post and made no attempt to save as Junior Adiri converted. The decisive kick came at 90+24, after a 20-minute interruption.

Tesonotte gestured for the taker to proceed then applauded emphatically once the ball crossed the line, underlining his protest.

He later said the decision to step aside was taken collectively and only after the penalty was awarded, which he felt was clearly unjust. He argued such a call should not have been made.

Tesonotte also claimed Adiri did not keep an agreement reached during the delay, saying there are codes in football and that they were surprised he scored.

Referee Carlos Arteaga was subsequently suspended by the refereeing commission of the Bolivian Football Federation.
