Arnau Martínez started and captained Girona in Córdoba on matchday two of LaLiga Hypermotion, with his future still unresolved.
According to Superdeporte, Valencia’s signing of Pablo Maffeo on Thursday has eased immediate urgency at right-back, yet the club remain interested in the Girona defender.
Girona previewed the fixture at midday with a graphic featuring Arnau holding the red and white shirt, then selected him in the starting XI that night, a call made despite the possibility of a transfer before the window closes.
The player still wants to join Valencia, and there were no developments from Maffeo’s arrival to kick-off to unblock a deal. Girona underline his importance and have asked for a fee close to the eight million value of his clause. He has one year left on his contract, could agree a free move from January, and seeks top-flight football, with a preliminary agreement reached with Valencia.
For now, Arnau remains professional and focused on Girona duties. He featured on matchday one, when a goal of his was ruled out, and stays a key figure while keeping open the option of a switch to Mestalla in the coming days, or a move elsewhere within Europe’s top five leagues.
