It has been a whirlwind few weeks for Arne Engels since he joined Celtic at the end of the recent transfer window.

Already, he’s played his part in an emphatic Glasgow derby win, he scored his first goal for the club at the weekend on what was his first start for the Hoops, coolly slotting home a penalty.

And on Wednesday, he experienced a UEFA Champions League night at Paradise for the first time.

Not only that, but he produced an excellent performance to help Celtic record a stunning 5-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava on their opening match in the new league format of the competition.

The 21-year-old also made it two goals in two games for the Hoops, converting another penalty in the second-half.

The Belgian internationalist was delighted with the result and was amazed by the atmosphere at Celtic Park, as he told Celtic TV after the game.

“With the crowd at the beginning, it was exceptional – a sound like I’d never heard before,” Arne Engels said.

“It’s indescribable actually, so I really enjoyed it and to get a victory like this is more than deserved.

'Of course it was nice to get a goal but the most important thing was that we grabbed a win, and we did that exceptionally well.'

“But we still need to keep on working and I still need to keep on working to improve.

“It’s going better and better every day in training. We’re working on the relationships so it is only going to keep improving, but I’m really pleased with the guys.

“They’re helping me all the time before and after the game, telling me some details so it will only get better.

“I still cannot believe what I’m doing and I still need a few more weeks to get a feeling and get everything sorted in my head, but I’m now here to keep on going, keep on performing and that’s what I’m going to do.”
