Liverpool manager Arne Slot has admitted that his side were not as good as previous Manchester City title-winning teams in new comments to the press.
The Merseyside club became the first side in four years to be crowned Premier League champions aside from Manchester City, who established themselves as four-in-a-row winners of the competition for the first time in its history.
It was a largely routine and straightforward victory for Arne Slot and his Liverpool players, as aside from their obvious quality and brilliance on the field, there was very little in the way of competition from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City.
In fact, on the subject of the defending champions throughout the season, Manchester City struggled to mount anything other than a top-five pursuit and the chasing down of UEFA Champions League football for the 2025/26 campaign.
But while Slot will no doubt be immensely proud of the remarkable achievement he has earned in his debut season in English football, the Dutchman was keen to point out the difference between the manner of victory of his operation and that of Pep Guardiola in recent years.
Speaking after his side’s recent 3-2 defeat on the road at Brighton & Hove Albion, Arne Slot told reporters that while their triumph in the division can be put down to consistency, their manner of victory has been not to the standard established by Manchester City in the past.
“We won this league because we’ve been so consistent, we’ve done so many things right, but we haven’t won it in a way like Manchester City did for the last four seasons where they could just close their eyes and they were 4-0 up,” the Dutch coach told reporters.
Manchester City officials will be hoping that Guardiola can guide his side back to the very pinnacle of their competitive best potential as soon as next season, and will seemingly be willing to everything necessary on their end to make that happen.
The widespread understanding is that City will be one of the more active clubs in the upcoming summer transfer window, both in the way of arrivals and departures from the first-team squad.
There is due to be a minimum of two additions in roles from the No.8 position and further ahead, while defence could see recruitment finalised in the left and right-sided full-back positions, with Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento among the names of interest.
