Slot Reacts to Salah’s AFCON Return

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot spoken positively about the return of Mohamed Salah following his participation with Egypt at Africa Cup of Nations 2025 in Morocco.

The Egyptian forward was away for more than month and finished the tournament in fourth place with Egypt.

Salah rejoined Liverpool training on Tuesday taking part in the final session before the squad traveled to France for their Champions League meeting with Marseille on Wednesday.

“We Create More Chances With Salah”

Speaking at the pre-match press conference , Slot made it clear how important Salah remains to the team. He said he was “very happy” to have the winger back stressing that Liverpool create more chances when the Egyptian international is on the pitch.

Slot highlighted Salah’s impact in front of goal reminding reporters that only one player has scored more goals for Liverpool in the club’s history.

Using light tone the Dutch coach noted that he could not bring back Ian Rush adding that Liverpool would likely have scored more goals in certain matches if Salah had been available.

Slot also asked about his relationship with Salah following reports of frustration from the player earlier in the season. The Egyptian star had shown visible anger after being left on the bench for three consecutive Premier League match before departing for AFCON.

The Liverpool coach played down any suggestion of an ongoing issue. He explained that squad decisions are part of football management stating that sometimes he chose not to start Salah and on other occasions decided not to include him at all.

Slot insisted these decisions never caused personal problem between him & the player.

He added that this was Salah’s first opportunity to fully rejoin the group after the tournament and suggested that team selection would show whether any problem still existed.

Mohamed Salah remains one of Liverpool’s most decisive players and central figure in their attacking structure.
