Arne Slot has criticised Micky Van De Ven for the challenge that injured Alexander Isak during Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Tottenham, and he believes the striker can return before the end of the season.

Isak opened the scoring on Saturday and suffered an ankle injury with a fractured fibula. According to L'Équipe, it followed a poorly controlled tackle by Micky Van De Ven.

Speaking on Tuesday morning, Slot described it as a dangerous tackle and contrasted it with a Xavi Simons challenge he considered entirely unintentional and unlikely to injure. He said that if a tackle like Van De Ven’s is made 10 times, there is a good chance of serious harm each time.

The most expensive player in English league history will miss a large part of the second half of the season.

Slot said the lay-off will last several months and called it a huge disappointment for the player and for Liverpool. He remains convinced Isak will be back before the campaign ends.
