Dutchman signed a three-year deal upon being appointed Liverpool head coach in June 2024
Arne Slot said his focus is on getting Liverpool back to winning ways amid reports talks over a new contract have been placed on hold.
It was claimed earlier in the month that Liverpool were eager to extend Slot’s deal - which is currently due to expire in the summer of 2027 - as a reward for a superb first season in charge.
The Dutchman led the Reds to the Premier League title in the 2024-25 campaign, while they also reached the Carabao Cup final.
However, amid fresh reports that negotiations have been paused due to Liverpool’s drastic slump in form, Slot was asked for an update on his contract situation ahead of the Aston Villa game on Saturday.
"That’s the last question I was expecting," the Dutchman said in the pre-match press conference on Friday morning. "My focus is on getting Liverpool back on winning ways, that's my first answer.
"My second answer is that contract talks, if they are even there, we never speak about this here.
"Let us first start to win again, that is my main focus."

Liverpool have lost six of their last seven games across all competitions, falling seven points behind Arsenal in the Premier League and crashing out of the Carabao Cup during this concerning period.
Though, Slot - who retains the backing of the Liverpool hierarchy amid sack speculation - has full belief his side can turn their form around, starting with this weekend’s clash with Villa at Anfield.
"The thing that gives me the most confidence is the quality of the players that we have. And, the amount of chances these players are still creating,” Slot added.
"This will eventually always lead to these players scoring more goals than we have done until now.
"If I am speaking about what we have to improve, people will say I'm using excuses so maybe now it is better to just say we need to address certain things to do better. But, there are a lot of positives to go into this week as well.
“Quality of the players is the first and foremost and the amount of chances we create from open play is still good enough to compete for the competitions we want to compete for."
