Mo Salah is undoubtedly one of the best players in Liverpool’s history, but the last 18 months have been filled with uncertainty.

The Egyptian King delivered one of the best individual campaigns English football has ever seen as the Reds marched to the Premier League title, but his dominance did not come without controversy.

For most of the season Salah’s future was undecided, and many suspected the Egyptian would leave on a free transfer.

The 33-year-old's fine form was rewarded with the biggest contract in the club’s history and the uncertainty surround the star’s future was supposed to end, but that simply hasn’t been the case.

The fallout of Salah’s interview saw him dropped from the squad completely for Liverpool’s 1-0 Champions League win over Inter Milan, but the Egyptian has since returned to the team.

Now away with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, the rift between Salah and Slot appears to have been partially mended, but the forwards time at Anfield could still be coming to an end.

On a number of occasions this season, Slot has spoken specifically about how he wants pace in his team, something Liverpool appear to be lacking slightly at the moment.

Slot once again clarified this speaking to Sky Sports about the arrival of Hugo Ekitike, saying: “[Ekitike] belongs to the fastest players we have. That was one of the things I wanted to add to this team. Incredible pace.”

Salah’s fate is already sealed

If pace is what Slot wants, a number of Liverpool players could be in trouble.

For several years Salah held a reputation as one of the fastest players in European football but, with age and after suffering a few injury setbacks over the years, the Egyptian King’s pace has dropped off.

Salah is by no means slow, but he is no longer the frighteningly quick player he once was, and he relies less on his explosive speed as a result.

There will only be 12 months remaining on his contract come the end of the season and, as he is only likely to slow down further, the decision may be made to cash in on Salah in order to bring in a player who possesses what Slot desires, ‘incredible pace’.
