Liverpool manager Arne Slot has admitted he was left in “disbelief” after watching his side throw away a two-goal lead in the dramatic 3-3 draw against Leeds United.

The Reds seemed to be cruising to a second Premier League win in three games when Hugo Ekitike bagged a two-minute brace barely 10 minutes into the second half.

However, things turned sour when a moment of madness from the underfire Ibrahima Konate handed Leeds a route back into the game.

The France international gave away a penalty following a reckless challenge on Wilfried Gnonto, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin converted from 12 yards to give Leeds a lifeline and put pressure on Liverpool.

That pressure paid off just two minutes later when Anton Stach rifled home an equaliser.

Dominik Szoboszlai thought he had won the game for Liverpool when he scored in the 80th minute, but a last-gasp effort from Ao Tanaka salvaged a point for the newly promoted side.

Speaking in an interview after the game, Slot struggled to hide his disappointment with the result.

“There’s a sense of disbelief,” Slot said (via BBC). “I think we played quite well to very well during large parts of the game and went 2-0 up.

“I don’t think we had any problems, and I don’t think we conceded a chance until the moment we make a foul, which is not even a chance.

“It’s 2-1, and not many moments later, the first chance they had, it was 2-2. Then we go up, and you think you’ve done enough to win the game, and then a set piece leads to the 3-3.

“It’s not about me. It’s about us, it’s about the fans. The players have worked so hard and again to concede from a set-piece – the 10th or 11th this season.

“If you concede so many, you cannot be higher up the table than we are.”

Slot is running out of time to turn things around at Liverpool. The draw with Leeds means the Reds have now won just two of their last 10 Premier League games.

They sit eighth in the Premier League table, although just two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

However, if Slot doesn’t find a way to halt Liverpool’s slump, it’s only a matter of time before he finds himself out of a job.

The Dutchman’s task hasn’t been helped by his ongoing rift with Mohamed Salah, who has now been dropped for back-to-back games.

If it came down to a choice, Liverpool may decide to part ways with Slot rather than lose Salah, who has been integral to the club’s success for nearly a decade.
