These are dangerous days for Arne Slot.

Although the Liverpool head coach got off to the best possible start - winning the Premier League in his first season - this campaign has been a lot more difficult.

The Premier League champions are scrapping it out just for a place in the Champions League next season - having lost 10 top-flight games already.

The Anfield club went into the March international window on the back of a defeat to Brighton and uncertainty is beginning to mount over Slot’s fate.

The 47-year-old is under contract until 2027 but there remains a chance that FSG make a decision on his future soon. It’s most probable that Slot lasts the season but there is an outside chance he is sacked during the international break.

And if the Dutchman ends up leaving his post any time soon then .

'Open secret' that Ajax want Arne Slot

It’s “an open secret” that Jordi Cruyff - the Amsterdam club’s technical director - wants either Slot or Erik ten Hag to take over as part of his revolution.

That’s according to renowned journalist Mike Verweij - who told the Kick-off podcast that Jordi is very impressed with Slot’s work.

"It is an open secret that Jordi Cruijff is very impressed with Erik ten Hag and Arne Slot," the De Telegraaf writer said.

"I think they are the only two Dutch candidates he currently sees as a suitable manager for Ajax; otherwise, he will look abroad. In this case, that might well be Spain, but it doesn't necessarily have to be."

But the journalist wasn’t able to confirm whether or not a meeting had already taken place between Slot and the new Ajax decision-maker.

"No, that is not possible," he admitted.

Slot WILL leave

Slot reportedly had the opportunity once before to move to the Johan Cruyff Arena but he ended up at Feyenoord instead.

"Slot was already on Overmars's list back then, but Feyenoord beat him to it. In that respect, it doesn't sound strange to me that he would be a candidate. And certainly not if he leaves Liverpool,” said fellow panellist Valentijn Driessen.

"Of course he will have to give something up, but he was already earning a fortune at Feyenoord. He was the highest-paid manager in the Netherlands at that time. If you have a very good manager, he pays for himself. Players also become more valuable.”

Furthermore Driessen added that he DOES indeed expect Slot to come available imminently.

"At Feyenoord, you see what it has yielded, but also what the legacy is. Robin van Persie and Dennis te Kloese are dealing with that now as well: the enormous expectations,” he said.

“The standard is Arne Slot; as Feyenoord, you cannot meet that. That is also very difficult, because he is, of course, a top manager. You saw that in his first year at Liverpool. But I do think he will become available on the market."
