Arne Slot Confirms Mohamed Salah Absence for Manchester United Clash

For Liverpool supporters, the sight of Mohamed Salah leaving the Selhurst Park pitch at half-time last Saturday carried a particular kind of anxiety. It was not merely about the immediate impact on Arne Slot’s team, nor even the looming trip to Manchester United. It was about what Salah now represents in the final weeks of his Liverpool career.

After nine years on Merseyside, Salah is set to leave the club this summer. That makes every remaining appearance feel heavier, more emotional, and more significant. So when Liverpool confirmed on Wednesday that the Egyptian’s problem was only a minor hamstring muscle issue, the relief was obvious.

Still, there is a practical reality. Salah will not feature at Old Trafford on Sunday, and Slot made that clear during his pre-match press conference on Friday.

Arne Slot Offers Calm but Clear Update

Slot’s tone was measured, but there was warmth in the way he spoke about Liverpool’s departing icon. Salah’s professionalism has long been part of his legend at Anfield, and the head coach was keen to stress that even injury rarely slows him for long.

“As we know from Mo, he is always working incredibly hard when he is fit, but also when he is injured to be back as soon as possible,” the Liverpool head coach said.

“Usually he is earlier fit than other players after a minor injury, so we expect him back in the final part of the season, but not for Sunday.”

That line matters. Liverpool lose Salah for one of the fixtures supporters circle before the campaign even begins, but they have not lost him for the final stretch. Given the initial fears, that feels like a meaningful victory in itself.

Mohamed Salah Send-Off Now Takes Centre Stage

Salah’s numbers this season, 39 appearances, 12 goals and nine assists, are not the full measure of his importance. They never have been. He has scored in two of his last three matches, but his value is also structural, psychological and historical.

He stretches opponents, changes defensive behaviour and still carries the aura of a player who can bend a game to his will. At 33, he remains one of the Premier League’s elite attacking threats. Liverpool can replace minutes, wages and even tactical functions. Replacing Salah’s gravity is another matter entirely.

Slot clearly understands that.

“In all ways, it is a big relief that his injury is minor, that he is able to play for us and at the World Cup,” Slot added.

“If there is any player that deserves to have a big send-off, it is definitely him.”

Old Trafford Absence, Anfield Farewell

The World Cup reference was significant. Salah is expected to lead Egypt this summer in the United States, Canada and Mexico, and a serious injury at this stage would have carried consequences well beyond Liverpool.

For now, Sunday arrives too early. Manchester United will not be Salah’s next chapter. Instead, Liverpool’s final home match against Brentford on May 24 increasingly looks like the emotional focal point.

Anfield has staged many farewells, some grand, some messy, some unresolved. Salah deserves something different, something worthy of the goals, the trophies, the standards and the memories. The hamstring scare has passed. Now Liverpool can prepare for goodbye.
