Arne Slot sends another brutal message to Calvin Ramsay

Liverpool have been experiencing a right-back crisis throughout the season and it got even worse on Wednesday night.

Ever since Trent Alexander-Arnold was sold to Real Madrid last summer for £10m things just haven’t gone right. The Reds signed Jeremie Frimpong for £29m from Bayer Leverkusen and also gave a new contract to Conor Bradley.

Frimpong is currently on his third significant injury absence of the season and - besides - looks far more at home as an attacking options.

Bradley, 22, won’t play again this season due to a complex knee injury suffered in early January. And as a result of those disruptions Arne Slot has been forced to improvise.

Joe Gomez has had more football this season than he might have expected but even he’s had his share of injury troubles and only returned to the fold on Wednesday night after a knock suffered against Bournemouth last month.

Dominik Szoboszlai has also been used at right-back - meaning the Premier League champions are missing his energy in central midfield. The Hungary captain was suspended on Wednesday night following a red card against Manchester City last weekend.

Those absences opened the door to Wataru Endo - making his first start of the Premier League season albeit out of position. But disaster struck for the 33-year-old - who suffered a horrifying injury during the second half of the 1-0 victory.

Calvin Ramsay cannot get a look in

This weekend against Brighton in the FA Cup Arne Slot will once again have Szoboszlai available and Gomez should be fit enough to feature from the outset.

The current right-back landscape should be taken therefore as a message from Arne Slot to Calvin Ramsay.

The 22-year-old has been on the bench for the Anfield side in every Premier League game since early December without setting foot on the pitch.

In fact his only outing came in the disastrous EFL Cup loss to Crystal Palace back in October.

And during the week Arne Slot said that he would not be fielding Ramsay in the Sunderland game either - sealing his fate as a Liverpool outcast.

“I’ve chosen other players until now and that’s also what I’m going to do tomorrow,” he said.

Although he’s the only fit right-back specialist he will not get a look in under the current head coach - not as first-choice right-back - not even as fifth or sixth-choice right-back.

The list of players ahead of the Scotland international in the pecking order includes Frimpong, Bradley, Szoboszlai, Gomez, Endo and Curtis Jones too - who has also played there fleetingly this season.

Even when Endo was injured Slot preferred to use Gomez who is recovering rather than risking the former Aberdeen man.
