Manager’s behaviour in May blamed for starting the club’s current malaise

Arne Slot has been described as "classless" as pressure on his Liverpool job mounts just months after winning the Premier League title.

The Reds were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Nottingham Forest at Anfield at the weekend, which was their sixth defeat in seven in the Premier League, to drop into the bottom half of the top-flight standings.

Slot's second season is in stark contrast to his first, when he stormed to the title with little competition from rivals. The celebrations began early for the Dutchman and his squad, with Arne Slot pictured in Ibiza during the run-in, in which Liverpool failed to win any of their final games of the season.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes the rot started then, with Slot's "disrespectful" and "classless" antics catching up with the squad.

Scholes said on The Good, The Bad & The Football: "I think this started towards the end of last season, do you remember when they won the league? The bad form started, they went away, went to Ibiza or something. Honestly, Arne Slot was DJing.

“DJing in Ibiza. But that’s, that’s before the season’s done, that’s what I mean, I think that’s disrespectful that, before the season’s done, I think it’s classless that."

Slot is now facing questions over his future at Anfield.

Amid Liverpool links with Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the club "are not activating any contact" over a replacement but are "internally discussing" the club's plight, which is described as an "emergency situation".

"It’s complicated, it’s difficult," Romano reported earlier this week, adding: "At this stage, I’m told that Arne Slot knows that this situation must change as soon as possible, especially in the Premier League more than in the Champions League. In the Premier League, it’s really important for Liverpool to change this situation.

“As of now, Liverpool as a club – owners, management – still back the manager, support the manager and want to see different results as soon as possible."
