Liverpool head coach Arne Slot insists he and his players must “fight on” as pressure intensifies following the club’s worst run of form in more than seven decades. The Premier League champions have suffered nine defeats in their past 12 matches in all competitions, a sequence capped by Wednesday’s bruising 4-1 Champions League loss to PSV at Anfield.
It marks Liverpool’s poorest stretch of results since 1954, while three successive defeats by margins of three goals or more have raised searching questions about the team’s direction under the Dutchman. Slot, however, maintains he retains the backing of the club’s hierarchy, who remain mindful of his title-winning first season.
“We fight on. We will try to improve,” Slot said when asked by journalists about discussions over his future. “We have to keep fighting, fight together. But we also need to reward ourselves when we play well. Every small mistake is costing us.”
Much focus has centred on the form of senior figures Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, both struggling to reach previous levels, while Ibrahima Konaté’s erratic displays have compounded Liverpool’s defensive problems.
Slot confirmed he is considering changes for Sunday’s trip to West Ham, with fringe players such as Joe Gomez and Wataru Endo pushing for involvement. “They train with us every day and can prove themselves,” he said. “You always look for the right balance. I consider it, but I can’t say what that means for Sunday just yet.”
