Arne Slot will be raging after what has happened to his Liverpool stars

After the 2025-26 season came to an end, Arne Slot was relieved of his duties at Liverpool manager.

Even though the Dutchman had only just hired one of his former staff members from Feyenoord, Fenway Sports Group chose to get rid of him after the poor showing his team put on last term.

They finished fifth in the Premier League and, if we're being honest, they looked like a fraction of their former selves despite having over £400 million spent on new players to try and improve their ranks.

Indeed, injuries had a big part to play in the Reds' lack of form but, a team of Liverpool's stature should have had more than enough quality to deal with an injury crisis.

However, the fact that most of Slot's men failed to perform to the standards expected of them is probably more of the reason why their season ended so poorly.

But, now that the World Cup is on, players have had a chance to redeem themselves with Slot likely to have been left rather annoyed.

Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister have been on top form during the World Cup

The rest of them have been beyond bad with Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister among the worst culprits as their performances were some of their worst-ever in a Liverpool shirt.

Gakpo only seemed to know how to do one thing which was cut in and shoot, but, since his finishing was poor this season as well, he rarely got a chance to put the ball into the back of the net.

Despite this, Slot still chose to stick by him with the final few games of the season the only times that Ngumoha was trusted to consistently start games.

Mac Allister wasn't much better either. Even though he was seen as one of the Premier League's best central midfielders during their Premier League winning campaign, this term, he forgot how to run and failed to make his time on the pitch count.

However, since the World Cup kicked off, each of them have been in stellar form and have run back the years.

Gakpo has played in both of the Netherlands' games and has contributed to three goals while Mac Allister has maintained a 93.9 per cent pass accuracy and has made five tackles and had 10 defensive contributions.

Why Arne Slot will be raging at Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister

Even though the aforementioned stats are just a select few, it's clear to see how well the duo are playing for their countries.

Of course, this upturn in form is great for Liverpool as it means that they could potentially demand more money for the players than they originally wanted.

But, for Slot, he'll clearly be annoyed by the upturn in form as it didn't occur when it mattered most to him.

Slot could have done with an extra goal or two from Gakpo and, since Mac Allister is joining Argentina's defence with their attack, this link-up play would've been massively helpful for Liverpool's form.

Indeed, their upturn in form could be due to the different systems that their countries use compared to what Slot laid out but, their quality should have still been able to shine through.

If it had, Slot could still be in a job and Liverpool may have finished higher in the table than fifth.
