Arokodare strikes off bench as Ajax are held and Excelsior rise to sixth | OneFootball

Ajax and Excelsior drew 2-2 at the Johan Cruijff ArenA, a result that lifts Excelsior from seventh to sixth in the Eredivisie.

In the 23rd minute, Owen Wijndal replaced the injured Caio Henrique. Julian Brandt then swept in to put Godenzonen ahead (32.). Lennard Hartjes levelled in the first minute of first half stoppage time.

After the restart, Aymen Sliti nudged Excelsior in front from close range (62.). Substitute Tolu Arokodare replied two minutes later (64.), equalising shortly after coming on for Kasper Dolberg. Irakli Yegoian supplied Sliti's goal and leads the Eredivisie assists chart on five this season.

Stijn van Gassel made six saves as the visitors withstood waves of pressure. Godenzonen also struck the woodwork three times late on.

Godenzonen finished with 80.8% possession and 33 attempts, eight on target. Excelsior registered four attempts and scored with two on target.
