In Uruguay for the final stages of his fractured clavicle recovery, Arrascaeta watched Flamengo’s match against Estudiantes with the Spanish-language broadcast and jokingly mimicked Argentine commentator Mariano Closs while calling Pedro’s goal.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the No 10 echoed Closs’s distinctive delivery as he announced Pedro’s strike for 1-0 in playful fashion, and his wife’s son, Thiago, joined in. Closs is the leading Libertadores commentator across Spanish-speaking South America.

Closs called Pedro’s goal 19 minutes into the second half. Bruno Henrique attempted an individual run down the left but pushed the ball too far ahead. Opposing goalkeeper Fernando Muslera tried to intercept, failed, and left the No 9 to finish.

Sidelined until June, Arrascaeta has been allowed by Flamengo to complete the final phase of his rehabilitation with Uruguay’s medical staff. He is racing against time to be fit for Uruguay’s World Cup opener on the 15th against Saudi Arabia.

As Closs works exclusively on the Libertadores, Arrascaeta will need another channel in Uruguay to follow Flamengo against Palmeiras at the Maracanã on Saturday 23. Kick-off is 21:00 Brasília time.
