Arrascaeta to wear 14 for Flamengo in tribute to Oscar | OneFootball

Arrascaeta will wear Flamengo’s number 14 against Bahia on Sunday in tribute to Oscar Schmidt, who died on Friday 17 in São Paulo after falling ill.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the club have retired the basketball team’s number 14 and the Uruguayan will set aside his usual 10 for this fixture.

The match at Maracanã kicks off at 19:30 Brasília time on Sunday 19, part of the 12th round of the Brasileirão.

A historic figure for the Brazil national team, Oscar Schmidt played 219 games for Flamengo between 1999 and 2003, scoring 7,241 points. He won state titles in 1999 and 2002.

At the club he shared the court with his son Felipe in a game against Mogi, a standout moment in his Flamengo spell. He later said he would have returned to Brazil earlier had he known how intense the experience at the club would be.

The 14 is not new for Arrascaeta, who wore it for Flamengo from 2019 to 2025. After Gabigol left early last year, he took 10, a number he has always worn at his previous clubs.
