Arroyo delighted with Aston Villa’s attacking unpredictability

Aston Villa head coach Natalia Arroyo says that she is really pleased with her side’s unpredictability in attack.

The Spaniard is in her third week in the job after being appointed The Villans’ new head coach last month.

Arroyo’s teams are known for wanting to get the ball down and playing football. With Aston Villa’s goals having been spread across several sources this season, Arroyo is thrilled with the attacking options that she has at her disposal.

“I want my teams to not be predictable, so I love that,” Arroyo said when speaking in an Aston Villa press conference. “I don’t want us to be reliant on one goalscorer or method, so it’s good to see that we can get goals from all of our attacking players. If we can add other options to that; set-piece actions, interventions of the second line and being aggressive on that, it’ll be amazing.

“It’s very good for a coach to have different ways to create chances, different goalscorers both in the team and coming off the bench to make an impact. I love that and there are probably more solutions that you haven’t seen yet that will happen.”

Aston Villa’s next Barclays Women’s Super League fixture is at Leicester City this afternoon. Arroyo says that an early goal could really help her side in their quest to climb the table.

She said “A result will be important because you perform better when there’s less pressure in terms of the league table.

“It’ll be important to again start well with energy. Let’s see if we can score from one of our first big chances. We’ve created chances in both of the games against Chelsea and Brighton, so let’s see if we can score [early] because it’d help us a lot to go on and play our game. If that doesn’t happen, we need to stay focused throughout the game.

“We will try to get the three points that we need to keep climbing the table and move away from the relegation zone. We have confidence now, so we will do our best to beat Leicester.”

Reflecting on her first few weeks in the job, Arroyo says that she has been pleased with what her side have shown in the two games that they have played.

She said “We are satisfied with our process. They were two different games and it was a short week to prepare against Chelsea but we got confidence from that performance, even though we didn’t get the result, and that helped us in the next week.

“We prepared properly for Brighton. They are a team that likes to have the ball, so that tested us out of possession but we attacked well and found solutions.

“In this third week, we are trying to add different options to the team when we have the ball and we are aiming to continue to defend well.

“I am quite satisfied with the energy that we have. For the players, it’s still like the first day and I think that’s good. We are ready for the next game.”

Aston Villa’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Leicester City kicks-off at 3pm.
