Arsenal are now interested in signing the Spanish defender Jacobo Ramon from Italian club, Como.
The 21-year-old has been excellent for the Italian outfit, and he is highly rated across Europe. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta believes he could be a reliable addition to the club’s defensive system, according to reports in Spain.
The London outfit will have to compete with Chelsea, who have also expressed interest in signing the 21-year-old. Ramon is a promising young player with a bright future, and he could develop into a quality defender with the right guidance.
The exposure to the Premier League could be ideal for him at this stage of his career. If he is offered regular opportunities at the highest level, it could accelerate his development and help him fulfil his potential. Meanwhile, the player has also been linked with Real Madrid. The Spanish club has a buyback option of €9 million in his contract. That certainly gives them an advantage over the Premier League clubs. It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid will bring him back to the club at the end of the season.
They need defensive depth, especially with Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba in the twilight stages of their careers.
Arsenal and Chelsea will certainly be able to offer a lot more than Real Madrid, and the player is reportedly valued at €25 million. He has a contract with the Italian club until 2030, and they will not want to lose him easily. However, the buyback clause will leave them powerless to stop Ramon from joining Real Madrid.
They are, however, in a position to stop Arsenal and Chelsea from signing the player. It remains to be seen how the situation develops over the next few weeks.
