In a recent segment on Youtube, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano stated that Arsenal are keeping a keen eye on Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali. Romano said,

“Arsenal have an interest in Sandro Tonali but they never made an attempt to sign him in January because it was always impossible. Arsenal keep following the situation but still nothing advanced. Man Utd have already confirmed their interest to the player’s camp.”

Tonali’s Impressive Form In The Premier League

Tonali has enjoyed a decent run of form at the Tyneside club this season as he has produced a string of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The 25-year-old has found the back of the net twice and earned seven assists in 47 matches for Newcastle this season across all competitions.

The Italy international is currently among the best holding midfielders in the Premier League. Thus, it makes sense for the Gunners to try and get him on board this summer.

His current contract at the Emirates Stadium will run out in the summer of 2028, which could make it tough for Arsenal to sign him on a cut-price deal in the upcoming transfer window.

Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Go For Tonali?

Tonali is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to earn possession back for his side inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can strike the ball with power from long range.

The Italian sensation has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball as well. Tonali is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder if required. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Arsenal.

Tonali would undoubtedly enhance the quality of Mikel Arteta’s attack. He has what it takes to fight for a regular first-team spot at the Emirates Stadium in the coming seasons.

At 25, Tonali has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a worthy target for the North London club to pursue at the end of this campaign. He might even help the Gunners challenge for some major honours over the next few years. All in all, Arteta should focus on going for Tonali this summer.
