Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke revealed that Arsenal are leading the race for Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez this summer. O’Rourke said,

“I don’t think he’d (Alvarez) be a top target for Liverpool this summer. Obviously he’s a top player, there’s no getting away from that.

“It does seem that Arsenal are the ones pushing if he is to come back to the Premier League, but again, that’s going to be a big ask for Arsenal.”

Alvarez’s Impressive Numbers In The Premier League

Alvarez enjoyed a good run of form at the Madrid club in the previous campaign when he produced a string of impressive displays for them in the final third. The Argentina international netted 20 goals and grabbed nine assists in 49 matches for Diego Simeone’s side last season in all competitions.

The 26-year-old is currently among the best strikers in La Liga. Thus, Arsenal would do well to win the race for his services this off-season.

His current deal at the Wanda Metropolitano will expire in 2030, which could make it tough for the Gunners to sign him on the cheap later this year.

Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Get Alvarez On Board?

Alvarez is proficient at creating a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to create some promising chances for his teammates in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet.

The Argentine sensation can contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top. Alvarez mainly plays as a striker but can also serve as a winger on either flank if asked to do so by his manager. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to settle into life at the North London club.

We can expect Alvarez to inject more quality and depth into Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta’s frontline. He has what it takes to fight for a regular first-team spot at the North London club next season.

At 26, Alvarez has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a good fit for Arteta’s needs this summer. Hence, the Gunners would be wise to go all out to get him on board this off-season.
