Arsenal continued their perfect start to the Champions League campaign with a 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.
Four goals in just 13 minutes after half-time saw the Gunners blitz their Spanish opposition at the Emirates.
Gabriel Maghalaes opened the scoring as Arsenal scored from a trademark free-kick, before compatriot Gabriel Martinelli doubled the lead in fine style. Viktor Gyokeres then netted twice from close range in a huge confidence boost to the summer signing.
Arsenal’s win over Atletico Madrid also saw the Gunners set a new Champions League record. According to Squawka, the North Londoners are the first side to win seven consecutive games against Spanish opposition in the Champions League.
During that run, Arsenal memorably beat Real Madrid home and away in last season’s quarter-finals and have also claimed wins over Sevilla (2), Girona, Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Madrid.
Incredibly, Mikel Arteta’s well-drilled side have conceded just three times in those seven games. Spain might have dominated the European landscape in recent years, but Arsenal have proven to be kryptonite to La Liga of late.
