Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Martin Zubimendi as the Gunners plot a bid for Noni Madueke.

Zubimendi joins Arsenal from Real Sociedad in a deal worth more than £50million and the midfielder has signed on a five-year contract.

His arrival is expected to be followed by the signing of Christian Norgaard from Brentford as part of a midfield overhaul following the departures of Jorginho and Thomas Partey.

Arsenal have also agreed personal terms with Chelsea winger Madueke as Arteta bids to reshape his forward line for another crack at the Premier League title next season.

There is yet to be a club-to-club agreement with Chelsea with regards to a transfer fee for Madueke but it is thought Arsenal could make an opening bid for him next week.

Arsenal still want a striker and continue interest in Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres.

The Gunners agreed a pre-contact deal for Zubimendi in March and have now sealed his move despite late interest from Real Madrid in the Spain international.

Zubimendi said: “This is a huge moment in my career. It's the move I was looking for and one I wanted to make. As soon as you set foot here, you realise how big this club and this team are.

“I set my sights on Arsenal because their style of play is a good fit for me. They have shown their potential recently and the best is yet to come.”

Arteta said: “Martin is a player who will bring a huge amount of quality and football intelligence to our team. He will fit in really well and he has all the attributes to be a key player for us.

“The standard he has consistently performed at over the last few seasons for both club and country is exactly why we are so excited to have him with us. We all welcome Martin and his family to the club.”
