The Spaniard kept 13 clean sheets in the Premier League this season and shares the prize this time around with Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels.

Both shot-stoppers will have had set their sights on winning the award outright going into the final day of the season.

However, Raya was beaten by a Ross Stewart’s effort as Arsenal beat Southampton, whilst Sels was beaten by Levi Colwill as Forest missed out on Champions League qualification.

Still, Raya now becomes only the fourth goalkeeper in history to retain the Golden Glove award after Liverpool's Pepe Reina and Manchester City pair Joe Hart and Ederson.

Looking ahead, the Gunners' number one is targeting joining an exclusive club of just Reina and Hart who achieved three in a row next season.

He said: “I am delighted to keep it. As I've always said, it's not just me, it starts from everybody on the pitch and it's a collective effort, even if it’s the keepers who get the award, but it's just great for the team as well.

“Every award is special but the way we defended this season, we had a lot of injuries and different back fours. Today we played with KT in the centre-back and Zinchenko came back in as a left-back and Kuba as a right centre-back and Ben White as a right-back.

"That just shows the willingness to keep doing the right things and credit to everybody who helped the team to keep their feet.

“It is a special moment. To do something like this at this amazing club and put something into the history of the club, it's incredible. I'm very, very proud to achieve this, so now let's go for the third one.”

David Raya

Raya was ever-present for Arsenal in the Premier League this season, though he finished the campaign having kept just two clean sheets in his final nine appearances.

Ultimately it was the shut-out at home to Newcastle, coupled with Sels conceding late on against West Ham that contributed to Raya retaining the Golden Glove award.
