More concerning news for Arsenal during the international break
Arsenal have been dealt a brand new injury scare after Piero Hincapie became the latest player to withdraw from international duty.
Hincapie started Ecuador’s 1-1 draw against Morocco on Friday, playing 72 minutes at Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano before making way for AC Milan defender Pervis Estupinan.
It has since been announced that Hincapie will play no part of Ecuador’s international friendly against Netherlands on Tuesday evening after undergoing medical tests.
In fact, the left-sided defender is on his way back to London Colney to begin his recovery process in what is a fresh concern for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
A statement from the Ecuadorian Football Federation read: “The Ecuadorian Football Federation reports that players Piero Hincapie and Denil Castillo underwent medical and imaging tests and, based on the evaluation, both have been withdrawn from the squad.
“The results were immediately sent to their clubs, where they will begin their respective recovery processes.
“The national team’s medical staff will monitor their progress.”
The Gunners are next in action against Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals on April 4 and Hincapie is now a doubt for the trip to St Mary’s Stadium.
Hincapie, a loan arrival from Bayer Leverkusen on Transfer Deadline Day last summer, has become a regular in the Arsenal team and appears to have nailed down the left-back spot ahead of Riccardo Calafiori and Myles Lewis-Skelly.

This withdrawal follows on from William Saliba, Eberechi Eze, Jurrien Timber, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel withdrawing from international duty because of injury.
Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice missed England’s friendly against Uruguay. The pair have since left the camp ahead of the Japan clash on Tuesday, and are returning to Arsenal for “medical assessment”.
Furthermore, Martin Zubimendi has been removed from the Spain squad due to “discomfort in his right knee”, while Noni Madueke walked through Wembley’s media mixed zone with a knee brace on his left leg.
