Arsenal defender Cecily Wellesley-Smith has joined Swedish OBOS Damallsvenskan club FC Rosengård on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Gunners announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

The 19-year-old defender is a product of the Oxford United academy system. She joined Arsenal in summer 2024 and went on to star for the club’s Professional Game Academy League squad. Wellesley-Smith won the Under-21 Division 1 title with the North Londoners last season. The player signed professional terms with The Gunners last summer.

Wellesley-Smith has been gradually building her senior playing experience. She spent time on loan at Leicester City in the first half of this season. The defender got limited game-time with The Foxes before returning to parent club Arsenal last month.

On the international stage, Wellesley-Smith has represented England at various youth levels.

After joining FC Rosengård on loan, Wellesley-Smith told the club’s official media team “I think it’s a great opportunity. The Swedish league is good and I’ve heard great things from other teammates. Swedish players at Arsenal like Stina [Blackstenius] and Smilla [Holmberg] say good things about the league.

“I’m excited to be here, excited to play and get started.”

FC Rosengård will start 2026 with Swedish Cup action in the coming weeks.
