Arsenal have discovered their semi-final opponents in the Women’s Champions Cup next month.
The semi-finals and final of the inaugural Women’s Champions Cup will take place in London between January 28th and February 1st.
Renee Slegers’ side will hope to become the first team to lift the trophy in the competition’s history, after winning the Women’s Champions League for the first time last season.
Arsenal will face Moroccan side AS FAR in the semi-final of the Women’s Champions Cup.
AS FAR trailed for the majority of their clash with Chinese side Wuhan Jiangda.
An 89th-minute equaliser from Hajar Said sent the game to extra-time, where Sanaa Mssoudy netted the winning goal.
Arsenal face the Moroccan side on January 28th in Brentford. Should they win, they will meet either Gotham FC or Corinthians in the final on February 1st.
It was revealed last week that the Women’s Champions Cup final will be held at the Emirates Stadium, to be known as the Arsenal stadium for the duration of the tournament.
If Arsenal lose to AS FAR, they will still face a third-place playoff at their home stadium on February 1st.
The Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford will host both of the semi-finals.
As things stand the Women’s Champions Cup won’t be broadcast on television.
Earlier this month, it was reported by the Guardian that FIFA had been unsuccessful in their attempts at that point to secure TV rights for the competition.
This is despite BBC and Sky reportedly being offered the rights to stage the competition.
However, FIFA still have time to find a broadcasting company to show the four games in the competition.
FIFA also initially struggled to sell the men’s Club World Cup, which ultimately went to DAZN after they paid £1 billion for the rights, in a move said to be largely funded by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
Arsenal have had an underwhelming start to the Women’s Super League and sit in third, eight points off leaders Manchester City with 11 games to play.
The Gunners are eighth in the Women’s Champions League table and will hope to jump inside the top four which would secure them a quarter-final spot without having to go through the playoffs.
The Women’s Champions Cup is not necessarily Arsenal’s best chance of silverware however as they are also in the League Cup and are in the hat for the fourth round draw of the FA Cup.
In the League Cup, Arsenal face WSL 2 side Crystal Palace in the quarter-finals on December 21st.
